In December 2019, NatLaw, pursuant to a contract with the Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam (AMBD), conducted two legal training workshops in Brunei Darussalam. NatLaw consultant Bruce Whittaker, one of Australia’s leading experts in secured transactions law reform and the former chairman of UNCITRAL’s Working Group VI that adopted the Practice Guide to the Model Law on Secured Transactions, administered the workshops. Each workshop spanned two days, with one designed for members of the judiciary, the other for legal professionals. Approximately 20 judges, including senior members of the judiciary, and 60 lawyers attended the workshops that explained the intricacies of the secured transactions framework, as well as case studies and many practical aspects of extending loans secured with movable assets.
